What is Hospitality

Hospitality is about service and personal attention, making guests, customers, and employees feel welcome. It is the basis for how we interact and meet each other. Hospitality is important for the service sector and helps you to establish good connections and be polite in different situations. This is even enshrined in Article 22 of the Dutch Constitution, which stipulates that the government must create conditions for social and cultural development and leisure activities.

Economic Importance
The hospitality sector is important for the economy, with many different jobs and opportunities. In recent years, the vision of the Dutch hospitality sector has been further developed. Together, we enhance the success of the sector by collaborating with educational institutions and the government.

What does the Hospitality sector encompass?
The hospitality sector consists of various branches such as travel, tourism, recreation, water sports, catering, hospitality, and events. The sector generates 912 billion euros annually, accounting for 4.5% of the gross domestic product, and employs over 800,000 people, representing 7.5% of all jobs in the Netherlands.

Why a Hospitality Pact?

The hospitality sector has a promising future and wants to present itself better in society. This means showing how diverse and important it is, and how it contributes to employment, livability, and social cohesion. The pact lays the foundation for collaboration between education, businesses, organizations, suppliers, and the government.

What is the Hospitality Pact?
The Hospitality Pact is a plan for the labor market in the hospitality sector. It includes agreements on collaboration between companies, education, knowledge institutions, and the government, with goals and an action plan. This plan is reviewed and adjusted annually to remain current.

Collaboration
The Hospitality Pact describes what the sector aims to achieve together for a healthy labor market. Each year, the collaborating parties create an action plan, with a responsible person assigned to each action. To avoid duplication of work, existing education and industry consultation structures are utilized as much as possible.

Ambition Hospitality Pact 2030

With the Hospitality Pact as a guide, all involved parties work together towards the goals in the field of employees. This keeps the sector competitive. The joint ambition is divided into three topics:

  • Showcasing the value of hospitality, such as economic growth, well-being, employment, sustainability, and social cohesion.
  • Demonstrating that hospitality is a versatile field with diverse career opportunities.
  • Ensuring an adequate influx of qualified and yet-to-be-qualified talents in the labor market and in education.
